Keep on keeping on...

I just had a fantastic weekend in Chicago. The weekend was a celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Zeta Phi chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha. It was lovely to catch up with old friends- I love when you don't get to see someone for years and when you finally do, it's as if no time has passed at all. I tried some delicious new restaurants, with tasties ranging from heavy metal band themed hamburgers to bread pudding pancakes. Also had fun baby shopping with Annie- there are so many cute things out there! And the weather was perfect for us...upper 60's to mid 70's with clear skies. Saturday night was Adelphia, my sorority's formal, and being pregnant didn't hinder me at all. I had no problem taking over the dance floor with Meghan and Pam. Annie and I brought back our architectural dance moves with much a-go-go. All the current members were probably wondering about the crazy preggo alum but I had so much fun.

Just before I left for the trip, I had my glucose tolerance test to check for gestational diabetes. I'm proud to report that I passed with great numbers. Guess my good eating habits are finally paying off! The test was an interesting experience. For those of you not familiar with it, the glucose test requires the consumption of 50ml of glucose (so basically pure sugar) followed by a blood test an hour later. I had orange flavor, which was like ultra-ultra-concentrated orange soda. The sugar rush was insane- I was jittery, talking at light speed and overly emotional. I actually started crying on my way home when I saw a homeless man because I felt guilty for not saving my second piece of string cheese for him.

Another exciting bit of news is that this week is the start of my reduced work schedule! Between doctor's appointments and not feeling well, I was having trouble keeping up a 40 hour schedule. I talked to the boss and I'm now at 30 hours per week. Monday thru Thursday I'm here 8-3:30 and on Fridays it's 7:30-11:30. It was so exciting to go home early yesterday and wonderful to be able to leave work before I started to feel overly exhausted. I think this is a pretty fantastic way to start the third trimester!

  1. Yay for reduced hours! I'm so glad you had fun in Chicago, but so jealous I didn't get to go. That's OK, though, because I am saving my PTO for a March trip to L.A.!
